Who Owns What?

There have been major ownership changes in the past year. If it’s been tough for you to keep track, here’s a mini cheat-sheet on Who Owns What:

American Skiing Company

The Mothership of many mega-mountains, including Killington. Now, defunct as we knew it. The company is still in the process of liquidating. And no one thought they’d ever see the day! The Canyons sale was still in litigation as of August 2007 (Ski Area Management)

SP Land and Powdr Corp

The new owners of Killington. Pico comes along for the ride. As we understand it, Pwdr will run the ski areas while SP will take control of the real estate portion of the package.

Powdr Corp

Also owns  Park City Mountain, UT; Mount Bachelor, OR; Alpine Meadows, CA; Boreal and Soda Springs, CA and Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard.

Boyne USA Resorts

Family-owned operation out that is located in Michigan.

The Kircher family started with the creation of Boyne Mountain Michigan in the 1940s, followed by the acquisition of Boyne Highlands. Boyne also owns Big Sky, MT, and has Canadian holdings. Crystal Mountain in Washington state is another Boyne property.

And Boyne USA Resorts now runs the former ASC properties of Sunday River and Sugarloaf, ME. Here’s where it gets complicated, folks. CNL Income Properties owns the stocks of these two former ASC properties. The Boynes run them.

CNL is an unlisted real estate investment trust with vacation and ski property portfolios.

Properties include Bretton Woods and Loon, NH; Mountain High, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe, CA; and the Summit-at-Snoqualmie, WA and Brighton, UT.  However, Boyne USA runs Brighton, UT.  Crosland and Celebration  Associates run Bretton Woods, which is owned by CNL.

Booth Creek

Booth Creek operates CNL Income Properties’ areas like Loon, Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe, CA, and Washington’s Summit-at-Snoqualimie.
