Ski Watch Reporter Marsha skied at Stowe in Vermont on Thursday, January 26. Here's what Marsha had to say about her ski day:

Hat’s off to the Staff of Snowmakers & Groomers!

In spite of the mixed precipitation earlier this week they managed to bring Mt. Mansfield back to the pristine mid-winter conditions of just last week.

With 98 trails open and decent base depths of 24” to 36” (16”-26” natural) Stowe is close to 100% open with amazingly good trail coverage side to side and top to bottom.

The temperature at the summit this morning was a crisp 18 degrees and nowind.   Snow surfaces were fast with 2-3 “ of loose, sugar snow.

Full sun and a bluebird sky brought the temperature up to a very comfortable 28 degrees by mid-day; really softening up the snow surfaces.

I followed the sun starting early on the NEW ForeRunner Quad warming up on groomed intermediate trails, “Ridgeview” down to “Sunrise.”  I found firm, fast, carvable corduroy along with scenic vistas!   “Nosedive”, a long and
moderately steep expert trail, also just off the Quad, was definitely my pick of the day for consistent coverage of loose, sugar snow.

I ventured over to the Gondola and checked out another long, groomed to perfection, intermediate trail “Gondolier.” Snow surfaces were again consistent, loose sugar snow with excellent coverage.

There is plenty of terrain open for all abilities however until we get more fresh snow the moguls are too firm and the woods still a little thin…but hopefully the current snowfall will stay snow.

The Tyro Large Terrain Park with 10 Freestyle Features is now open.
