Mohawk: Lots to Like

Ski Watch Reporter Paul J. skied at Mohawk Mountain in Connecticut on Thursday, February 11. Here's what Paul had to say about his ski day:
Well, Mohawk didn’t get much snow from Wednesday’s storm as expected Only about 2 to 3 inches. But what they did get served them well.
All trials open and the new snow got groomed in nicely with existing cover resulting in dry, fast corduroy with high powder content.
The grooming was well-timed, as the groomed surface was setting up, continuing light snowfall and wind filled in much of the corduroy ribbing with fine fresh powder. So the early runs were more like a packed powder than corduroy.
Afternoon surface became skier-tracked with packed powder. Except “Wildwood” which had been left ungroomed with plentiful packed and loose powder on its long snowmaking mounds. Most of Wildwood will be allowed to develop into mogul terrain in the coming days.
Machine snow has also been stockpiled in large mounds on the Mohawk trail. Good for rolling turns and catching some air.
The season is now entering “the tanning zone”. I picked up a little color. A reminder that February 15 through 19, holiday rates do apply.
Had a chat with Mohawk’s groom-meister Don and he said snowmaking will continue on a limited, as-needed basis. So, major snowmaking is winding down for the season.
Good cruising trails included "Arrowhead", "Route 100", and the "Mohawk Trail". Carefree, linked turns top to bottom on those 3.
Overall excellent mid-winter conditions, with a hint of sunny spring feel to the weather. Similar conditions should continue for a few more days.
