Catamount: Soft & Springlike

Ski Watch Reporter Paul skied at Catamount in Massachusetts on Monday, March 1. Here's what Paul had to say about his ski day:

If you like your snow a little soft, a little damp and little springlike, this could be your week.
Catamount had soft damp corduroy for the early runs, with cover becoming softer and damper and thicker later in the day. The snow texture wasn’t your typical coarse spring stuff, it was still quite powdery thanks to nearly 2 feet of new natural snow from recent storms.

Cover plentiful on all terrain, but there was some build up of thick loose cover on steeper trails, while gentler runs got nicely skier tracked to an evenly-distributed damp packed powder. One of my favorite combo trails of the day was the long easy Ridge Run to Mountain View to Colonel’s Caper.

The long looping Sidewinder trail also cruised out well. Among steeper trails, Alleycat kept the most even cover.
Plenty of choice for mogul maniacs here at Catamount too. Bumps are cut deep on the intermediate-pitched Off Stage trail. The very steep Catapult is less steep cut and should ski soft for the rest of the week.

And, there are new trail side natural snow bumps on the Glades run. All 3 terrain park areas and the half pipe have been kept fully groomed.

With temps forecasted to range in the low to mid 40s, make sure you’re properly waxed for softer, damper snow. Pack some waterproof attire too.

Overall, some very pleasant spring like conditions today.
